Jamie Spain, Condé Nast Traveler’s Travel Bookings Editor, bought the rb Miramar Shea ankle relaxed straight pant in the Lakewood medium wash and found the pair hit the balance she wanted between airport comfort and resort-ready polish. The straight-leg style retails for $268 and reproduces denim details while using a soft fabric that behaves like sweatpants.
Constructed of 100% cotton at a light-to-medium weight, the rb Miramar Sheas use a printed denim finish to create the look of real jeans. They include a functioning button, zipper, front pockets and back pockets, which Spain says preserve the illusion of denim while delivering the stretch and softness expected from a sweatpant. She reported wearing them on flights to Cincinnati and on train trips to the Hamptons, and made them a regular part of her airport uniform for red-eyes and early departures.
Spain tested two other rb Miramar silhouettes. The Sofie wide-leg pant in the two-tone Antonia colour, priced at $258, proved flattering and comfortable but ran extremely long and may need hemming for anyone under 5'10, and not all colours and styles are available in ankle length. The rb Miramar wide-leg ankle pant in Minetta costs $198, and leans more toward a traditional pull-on jogger, with a printed button and faux pockets that make it look less like denim.
Fit is a clear caveat. Spain says the styles run large in both length and overall sizing; she selected her usual size by waist and hip but felt she could have sized down. The ankle length is intended for those 5'4 and below, yet Spain, who is 5'4, found her ankle pair a bit long while wearing platform shoes, with the hem brushing the ground. A 5'8 friend could wear the ankle length with regular shoes without issue. Regular length pieces are made for people 5'5 and above, but Spain found some regular-length styles exceptionally long and likely unwearable without hemming; a 5'11 friend wore regular length comfortably with sneakers.
Availability also differs by length. Spain notes there are more than five times the number of options and styles in regular length than in ankle length, and several of the more distinctive designs are offered only in the longer cuts. That distribution affects buyers who want the cleaner ankle-length look without tailoring.
Spain’s experience positions the rb Miramar collection as a practical option for travellers who want a dressed appearance without sacrificing comfort, provided they consider the collection’s generous fits and the potential need for hemming.
