Peacock has locked in The Traitors for three more seasons, extending the Studio Lambert format through Season 8 and committing to a long-term run for one of the streamer’s highest-performing unscripted properties. The bulk renewal follows the series winning its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, while Alan Cumming collected his third straight Emmy as Outstanding Host for a Reality Or Reality Competition Program.
Producers and Peacock framed the order as a formalisation of a longer-term strategy for the format. The fourth season, which premiered in January, posted a 72% audience increase compared with Season 3, underlining the show’s growing reach and commercial value for the streamer. Peacock had already greenlit Season 5, which is scheduled to premiere next year, and the new three-season pickup carries the title through 2028’s television cycle.
The series, based on the Dutch format De Verraders and produced by Studio Lambert, separates contestants into Faithful and Traitors. At the outset the host selects the Traitors, who then work to eliminate Faithful players covertly while avoiding detection. Faithful contestants convene at a roundtable to vote out suspects, and the final prize is either split among surviving Traitors or divided among Faithful if all Traitors are exposed.
Season 4 was filmed in Scotland and featured a celebrity roster that included Rob Rausch, Maura Higgins, Eric Nam, Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir and Mark Ballas. The show’s executive producers are Alan Cumming, Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Sam Rees-Jones, Rosie Franks, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess and Darrell Olsen. After accepting the Emmy, Cumming said, "The audience is so amazing. It is so diverse, and it’s just incredible the way you all get together and watch the show together. That is so beautiful, that a show about treachery and betrayal brings people together."
The renewal secures Peacock’s sustained access to the franchise while NBC prepares a civilian edition, which is scheduled to debut on September 17. For the creative team the multi-season commitment provides a planning horizon for casting and production, and for the streamer it guarantees ongoing programming and promotional leverage for a proven reality property alongside titles such as Love Island USA.
